This morning a presentation cheque to the sum of £8,400 was presented to Canvey Youth Project on behalf of Calor Gas Ltd, outside the project on Long Road Island Canvey.
Canvey Youth Project will use the money to support local young people between the ages of 11 and 25. The charity works with young people across the community by listening to their problems or concerns in a non-judgemental way, offering information and advice which to base decisions, assisting in filling in forms or helping to understand questions, offering advocacy and support, offering counselling or befriending on a one-to-one basis and offering information on drugs, education, health or debt problems.
Castle Point MP Rebecca Harris, MP, who approached Calor Gas on the charity’s behalf, said “I am very grateful for Calor’s generosity with this substantial donation which will help make sure a Canvey Charity which has been supporting local residents for 20 years can continue to do so!
Calor Gas have had a major presence on Canvey Island since they bought the 35,000 tonne Canvey Island terminal in Thames road from British Gas in 1998.
Graeme Lockwood, Calor’s National Terminals and Projects Manager, presenting the cheque on Calor’s behalf, said, “We are delighted to provide this funding to Canvey Island Youth Project today. The work the project carries out is extremely important to not just the young people in Canvey Island but the community as a whole and we are thrilled to be in a position to help, following our long standing relationship with the local population.”
Alex Dobinson, representing the Canvey Island Youth Project said, “Receiving this cheque today is wonderful news for the Project. We are a small charity but the work we do has a huge impact on those who seek help from us. By presenting this funding to us, Calor have made it possible for us to continue this vital work, and ensure that there is always a friendly ear prepared to help the young community in Canvey Island.”
