The Link Road Neighbourhood in Canvey Island has been awarded a grant of a million pounds by the Big Lottery Fund.

A Local Trust will administer the grant in consultation with local residents and community groups.

Rebecca said “This is fantastic news which should make a real difference to the lives of people in the local community.

When I was first elected I was horrified to discover that Castle Point hadn’t been receiving anywhere near it’s fair share of Lottery funding for decades. I challenged the Big Lottery Fund to work with local good causes to change that. This grant today goes a long way towards doing so.

Not only is the amount very generous but it is fantastic that the Big Lottery fund are distributing the money through a Local Trust to ensure that it will be local residents and community groups will have to decide how the money is spent. No one knows better what a neighbourhood needs than the people who live and work there.

I would like to say a massive thank you to the Big Lottery Fund on the part of the local community and I hope they will continue their generosity to our Borough for many years to come.”
