Flood Meeting

Yesterday I held a meeting in Castle Point with the flooding Minister, Dan Rogerson MP and representatives from the insurance industry, including the Managing Director of underwriting for AxA, the General Insurance Manager of the Association of British Insurers, and the Executive Director of the British Insurance Brokers Association.

Yesterday I took part in a live debate on BBC Radio 1's newsbeat program about youth engagement with twelve 18-24 year olds, and Radio 1 featured artist George the Poet.

Heart FM cholesterol launch

Last week I attended the official launch of Heart UK's new manifesto on the dangers of cholesterol. This new manifesto lays down clear and focussed recommendations designed to address the issues around treatment and management of cardiovascular disease (CVD). The event in the House of Commons involved MPs having their cholesterol tested.

Winston Churchill

Walking into the House of Commons chamber today I could not help but take a photo of the tributes laying in front of Churchill's statue to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the great man's death.

Today I held a joint surgery with Dr Thomas Nutt of Healthwatch Essex, so constituents could share their experiences of health and social care in Essex.

We held another successful supper club meal tonight in our refurbished constituency office at Green Road, Benfleet.

Today I met with concerned residents of Downer Road North to discuss the disputed land opposite their properties. They are very worried that this woodland will be sold off to developers and I am currently helping them investigate their options and mobilise opposition.
