Michaella Philpot a 17 year old United Kingdom Youth Parliament Member, and member of the Young Essex Assembly, has been shadowing her local MP Rebecca Harris learning what life is like sitting on the green benches.
Michaella, who lives in Benfleet and was elected to represent South Essex earlier this February, said, “It’s such an amazing opportunity to have and I have thoroughly enjoyed learning about what an MP does to work for their constituents. It’s defiantly something that I would love to do in the future!”.
Michaella recently raised Rebecca’s Private Members Bill, that calls on the government to examine putting the clocks forward an hour throughout the year, at a meeting of the local Youth Council. A number of concerns were raised about the idea, including the affect on rural farmers in Scotland . However they voted to support the proposals because of recent studies showing that it would save lives on Britain ’s roads and help create jobs in the Leisure and Tourism Industry.
