Andrew Sheldon

I have been working for you as your Councillor on Essex County Council.

I am a Benfleet boy born and raised and am proud to be bringing up my own young family here. I am fully focused on serving our community. In my limited free time, I am a member of the trust that runs The King John School and I volunteer as a rescue driver for the Salvation Army’s Anti-Trafficking and Modern Day Slavery Programme.

Right now the cost of living is rising sharply and everyone is starting to feel the pinch. The priority of the Council MUST be helping residents and local businesses who are struggling as costs continue to rise. With the cost of services rising, the Council is facing some challenging financial times ahead. I will fight to ensure front line council services we all rely on are protected and that we as Council Tax paying residents get true value for our money.

Since becoming your Councillor I have not stopped fighting for our town. During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, I worked with the NHS to secure a Mass Vaccination Centre for local residents at Runnymede Hall and actively supported many local community groups with their fantastic efforts to bring help to people’s front doors during the lockdown. I also worked hard to ensure that local businesses got the funding they needed to stay afloat. I have helped secure millions of pounds of funding for Cedar Hall School to replace their old temporary classrooms with a brand new permanent state of the art facilities. I have also fought for and secured millions of pounds worth of investment into Benfleet Sewage Plant to help combat local odour nuisance, and will keep on fighting until the problem is solved for good! The amount of roadworks we suffer in our town is a constant annoyance for many residents. I will keep on fighting to ensure that when utility companies dig up our roads, they make every effort to minimise disruption and get their work done as quickly as possible.

  • I voted against the local plan and am against the developer’s proposals to build on Jotmans Farm
  • Delivering good quality and value for money services, making sure your Council Tax is spent wisely on things that matter
  • Ensuring Castle Point is an attractive environment for businesses to grow and flourish
  • Ensuring Castle Point remains safe, green and protected from flooding
  • Delivering the basics: clean streets, great local parks and reliable refuse collections
