MY PROMISE TO WORK FOR YOU

I have lived on Canvey for over 50 years but only recently have I been privileged enough to be your Councillor. There is still so much more to be done to truly put our Island on the right track and I pledge to be the voice championing your concerns.

With Canvey being almost entirely represented by Independents, I can continue to be a thorn in the side of our current local councillors. I am putting pressure on County Councillors to get our roads back in order, promoting the switch to LED street lighting, and working with Rebecca Harris MP to promote the work of the Third Road Task Force.

Living in the village all these years, I have seen how much potential our Island really has. It is important that we preserve our history, protect our environment, and support our local businesses so that our families can continue to enjoy living on the Island we remember.

This is why I thought it so important to vote against the Local Plan when it came to the Council in March. In my mind it was simply unacceptable to have so many houses built on Canvey Green Belt and I was not impressed at all by the proposals brought forwards by developers. Thank you to everybody who contacted me with their concerns during the Persimmons consultation earlier this year. I was inundated with emails on this issue and after listening to your valid observations, I voted against the Plan. We have to look beyond just simply preserving the West Marshes which is why I helped with the planting of 5,000 trees on Canvey. I have also promoted public safety from hazardous sites at every opportunity, campaigning against the refinery in the 1970’s and again pressuring the Council into objecting unreservedly against any expansion of Oikos.

Helping people feel safe by knuckling down on anti-social behaviour is another priority of mine. I am proud that the Conservatives initiated the first solution to ‘boy racing’ along Roscommon Way with a Public Space Protection Order now in the process of being introduced. It is the Conservatives who are empowering our local police to clamp down on dangerous driving.

Castle Point Borough Council was one of the fastest to deploy much needed support to our local businesses throughout the pandemic and I will always continue chatting to businesses across our Island to find better ways for the Council to support them in this role.

I have enjoyed representing Canvey West as your Conservative Councillor and I am now looking forward to standing up for the whole Island for another four years.
