It is important to the Leader of Castle Point Borough Council, Cllr Andrew Sheldon that issues highlighted on social media are answered by the Conservative Group including this one relating to the Independent Party motion to Council in respect of the local plan.
“The messaging from Cllr Mountford is designed to win public favour without highlighting the grave danger to our Borough from developers.
Developers will be encouraged by his parties motion which risks withdrawal of the Local Plan without an evidenced alternative in place and leaves local green belt open to significant over development and speculative planning without the protection of the emerging local plan.
Councillor Mountford and his Independent Party colleagues need to justify the statement.
Developers have spent years and a great deal of money pursuing those sites, why does he think that they will suddenly give up as a result of his motion to weaken the negotiating position of the Council?
The Council have received a notice of intervention requiring the authority to get a local plan in place to meet our housing need. How will he and his party deal with the legalities of that notice?
This is no time for vote chasing. There is too much at stake for the future of our borough”
