Responding to a call of action from long running local newspaper, The District News, members of the Castle Point Conservative Association took to the streets of Canvey Island in an effort to tidy up their Town Centre which is being plagued by untidy weeds. The group removed weeds and cleared rubbish in attempt to restore some community pride to the Islands main shopping area.
Conservative Association Chairman, Vera Partridge said “Spurred on by David Camerons ‘Big Society’ initiative we decided to take matters into our own hands and organise a clear up of Furtherwick Road”
“We have supported the “We Love Canvey” campaign and are keen to help improve trade for the businesses on Canvey. If our hard work attracts just one additional visitor to the Town Centre then it has been worthwhile.”
Canvey Island resident, Lydia Parkin adds “There appears little point in the Town Council planting a bright array of baskets and tubs if they let the weeds dominate the pathways. Like other Islanders I have a great fondness for our Town Centre and am happy to do my bit to help”
